Volunteer With Us

United Way of Greater Oswego County has been fortunate to be blessed with a strong contingent of volunteers. The work that they do is invaluable and is an example of the compassion our community members have for those in need. The donation of our volunteers’ time and talents is what makes it possible for the United Way of Greater Oswego County to have a lasting impact on our community.

When you give your time, you change lives right here in Oswego County. Volunteering with the United Way is one of the most powerful, hands-on ways to support your neighbors in our surrounding towns.

Whether you want to roll up your sleeves at a single event or rally your entire workplace around a common cause, we have a place for you.

Volunteer at a Community Event

Throughout the year, United Way hosts major signature events and seasonal donation drives that keep our community moving forward. These high-energy events depend entirely on volunteers like you.

  • Community Impact Events: From local charity tournaments and regional festivals to neighborhood clean-up days, help us manage event logistics, welcome guests, and keep operations running smoothly.

  • Seasonal Drives and Sorting: Lend a hand collecting, sorting, and distributing essential items during our critical annual drives, such as school supply collections, winter coat drives, and holiday food distributions.

  • Day of Action: Participate in our large-scale, community-wide volunteer mobilization events that take on multiple service projects across the county in a single day.

Workplace and Corporate Group Volunteering

Strengthen your workplace culture while giving back. We partner with local businesses of all sizes to build customized, high-impact volunteer experiences that align with your corporate values and fit your team's schedule.

  • Custom Team Projects: We match your company's team with local non-profit agencies that need hands-on assistance, from painting and landscaping to professional skills-based consulting.

  • In-Office Service Drives: Can't leave the office? We can help you organize a workplace "packing party" right in your breakroom or conference room to assemble hygiene kits, literacy packs, or emergency food bags.

  • Corporate Challenge Teams: Form a company team to represent your business at United Way events, boosting employee morale and showing our region your commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Community Investment Cycle

The United Way of Greater Oswego County invites you to participate in the Community Investment Cycle for Program Funding. This process offers an opportunity to learn more about our member agencies and make critical decisions on how the funds raised in our annual campaign will be invested in community programs.

All agencies requesting funding are divided into five panels, each representing a specific community issue. As a volunteer, you will work on one of the five panels, responsible for helping the United Way determine the allocation of funds for a two-year cycle. Volunteers are asked to invest about 15 hours of their time throughout the process until completion.

Participating in this process is a great way to learn about the United Way and give back to the community through volunteerism. If you would like to volunteer for a panel, please email your contact information to patrick@oswegounitedway.org.
